“I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggonit people like me.” -Stuart Smalley.
I had two friends counsel me to do positive affirmations lately. I think of the SNL skit that makes fun of them with Michael J. Of course Michael has high self esteem, he wouldn’t have become the GOAT if he didn’t. I don’t know, maybe Michael did positive affirmations at some point in his life. I don’t think anyone is born awesome and stays that way forever. At some point he had his struggles and had to talk positively to himself. Michael doesn’t have a severe mental illness like me. Whether Michael Jordan needs positive affirmations or not is irrelevant. I need them. So I’m going to write them in the mirror. I’ll think of cooler ones, though.
Or I’ll have AI do it. Well I just asked the AI. It’s a good first step. I had no idea where to start. Here’s what it came up with.
- I am worthy of love and respect.
- I am capable and strong.
- I believe in myself and my abilities.
- I am enough, just as I am.
- I am growing and learning every day.
- I embrace my uniqueness and individuality.
- My self-worth is not defined by external validation.
- I am proud of who I am becoming.
- I trust my intuition and make decisions with confidence.
- I am resilient and can overcome any challenge.
- I attract positive opportunities and experiences into my life.
- I am deserving of happiness and joy.
- I am bold and self-assured in all that I do.
Out of this list I think I’ll try, “I am resilient and can overcome any challenge.” That’s an attribute I could really use right now. I wonder if I have to believe that the positive attribute is possible for it to start changing my brain. I just asked AI again. And it was saying there needs to be a seed of truth. If you outright don’t believe it then your brain will have cognitive dissonance and will reinforce the negative belief.
Well, I’m going to give it a try, because “I’m good enough, smart enough, and doggonit people like me.”
